Applying to MHC

With the APPLY ALBERTA online system, you can begin your application process to MHC.

When To Apply:

Application may be done any time to Medicine Hat College. However, most programs application processing starts:

  • November 1 (the following fall semester)
  • October 1  (for winter semester)

1. Apply and submit the application fee

  • Official transcripts documenting your high school and post-secondary education must be sent to MHC to make final admissions decisions. Your official transcript should be sent directly from the provincial Department of Education and/or from other institutions to MHC Admissions Office.

3. Receive letter of acceptance

  • Should your application is successful an acknowledgement letter and/or letter of acceptance will be mailed to you.

4. Pay a deposit

  • Pay a $250 registration deposit to secure your place in the program.

5. Register

  • Complete online registrations of your classes using the mymhc.ab.ca (student information system) or in person at the Registration Office.

Undergraduate Student Application Requirements

As a high school applicant, you have secondary (high school) credentials only with little or no post-secondary study.

  • Review your specific program information to establish what high school subjects are required for admission to the program of choice.
  • Should you be a student from outside of Alberta, visit mhc.ab.ca to see the provincial high school equivalencies for each subject.
  • You may qualify for other programs at the college, if you don’t have the necessary high school requirements for your first choice of program, otherwise, you can make an upgrade through the College Preparation program.
  • Do well to get in touch with Advising or Admissions for more information.

Mature Students Admission Requirements

  • By definition, Mature students are 21 years of age or older who may not have finished high school. Thus, mature student admission requirements may differ from general admission requirements for some programs. Therefore, students are encouraged to meet with an advisor before applying. However, the academic assessment may be conducted to determine current proficiency levels in English and Maths.
  • You will have to first apply to MHC for admission in order to register for the Academic Assessment, thereafter, make an appointment with the Academic Resources Centre to write the essay and math assessments. Results are usually available approximately two days later.

Transfer Students Admission Requirements

  • These are those who have post-secondary coursework or credentials through a recognized university, college or technical institution. Have previous coursework? You should consult the program(s) of choice to know if a transfer status is considered for admission.

Step one: Submit Application

Step Four: Apply for Study Permit

As an international student, it is required that you must maintain a valid immigration status to live and study in Canada. MHC’s RISIA and RCIC-certified staff are available to provide you with information as regards immigration requirements and regulations related to your study at MHC. Nevertheless, it is your sole responsibility to:

  • Make sure your immigration & legal documents are current and available.
  • Ensure any documentation you submit for immigration purposes fulfil the requirement as stipulated, is accurate and complete.

Step Five: Get Ready to Study

  • Upon paying your tuition deposit, onboarding information and an onboarding checklist from the International Education office of MHC will be sent to you.
