Admission Requirements At Southern Alberta
Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) admits students from about 140 different countries. Programs at the institution are designed to offer students the needed guidance they need as they train towards a successful career.
Students who apply early enough and meet the admission requirements at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology are granted admission for their chosen program. Available programs at the school for international students include:

Southern Alberta Institute of Technology Admission Requirements
Asides from the general admission requirements for any program you are applying for at SAIT, some programs have specific requirements or selection criteria used to assess suitability for the program. This could be taking an entrance test, participating in an interview, submitting a resume or essay, and so on.
The educational documents you are to submit when you apply to Sothern Alberta Institute of Technology are:
- High school or secondary and/or post-secondary transcripts. You will also submit mark sheets and examination results
- Diploma and/or post-secondary degree graduation certificate
- Scanned copies of your original documents (in colour0 in their original language. If they are not written in English, you should provide translation from a certified translator.
- Proof of change of name (where applicable). This can be a new ID Card, marriage certificate, etc.
The transcripts you submit must show three years of consecutive education at the secondary or post-secondary level.
Before you submit your documents, you can also have them assessed by any of the following bodies.

- Education Credential Evaluators (ECE) for a course by course assessment

If your transcripts or assessment results are not ready, you are to provide your anticipated final grades, which will be used to grant your provisional admission.

English Proficiency Requirements at Southern Alberta Institute of Technology
There are five ways you can demonstrate proficiency in the English Language at SAIT:
- Completing any of the following with credentials to prove so:
- Minimum of three years of study (full-time) in an institution whose primary language of instruction is English. The program must have allowed you to have a minimum of 12 hours of class per week.
- Minimum of two years of full-time post-secondary education in an institution whose primary language of instruction is English.
- Studying at a SAIT-approved post-secondary institution and successfully completing a recognized credential program there. The language of instruction must be English
- Completing a post-secondary credit course in English Language, Communications, Comparative Literature, or any of the equivalents in a SAIT-recognized institution. Applicants must have made a minimum grade of C.
- Successfully completing the English Language Foundations (ELF) program at SAIT and meeting the stipulated requirements according to your chosen program.
- Successfully completing a recognized alternative to the SAIT English Language Foundations program in any of the institutions accepted at SAIT. You will find the list of those institutions and the requirements to be met on the English Proficiency page of the SAIT website.
- Taking a recognized English Assessment Test and meeting the minimum proficiency requirements as shown below:

Accepted results are those within one year to the time to submit your application to SAIT.
Applying for Admission at Southern Alberta Institute of Technology
Application to SAIT for courses starts long enough before the program resumption date. You should visit the school website for information on semester resumption dates and application time. At SAIT, you can apply for more than one program at a time.
However, different application fees apply for all applications you submit. For international students, the application fee is $150.
There are two different ways you can apply to the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology:
- Applying on ApplyAlberta
- Applying on SAIT’s Self-Service System
Applying on ApplyAlberta
If you are applying for admission through ApplyAlberta, the following are the steps to take:
- Visit the ApplyAlberta website and create a MyAlberta Digital ID account
- Fill in your personal details as requested and select Southern Alberta Institute of Technology as your institution
- Choose the program you are applying for and the academic term
- Pay the non-refundable application fee
- Await the confirmation email you will receive from SAIT
The email contains your SAIT ID number and instructions on the next steps you are to take. You should expect the mail in about three working days from when you submit your application.
Applying on SAIT’s Self-Service System
- Visit SAIT’s website and create an account with a temporary ID and password or log in with your ID and password if you already have an account
- Select International Application (type 1) in the menu options
- Select the program and term you want to apply for
- Provide all information need. This includes your personal details, final grades, and the questionnaire.
- Pay the non-refundable application fee
You will receive an email confirming your application and temporary login details. You will also be informed of any progress in the admission process via your email. Within six weeks of applying, you will receive your application status by mail.
This could be any of the following:
- Declined – Missing Requirements. This means your application has been denied because you do not meet admission requirements. If you can provide the needed documents before the application deadline, your application will be re-evaluated.
- Missing Documents. This means your application has not been reviewed yet because you did not submit an important document. If you get this, review all the documents you submitted and provide the missing one in time.
- Pending Evaluation. This means SAIT is awaiting the results of your document assessment. Your application will not be reviewed until the results are available.
- If you qualify for a program when the program is already full, you will be placed on a waitlist. You may be granted admission if there is a vacancy.
- In selection. If your program has additional criteria after you have met the basic requirements, you will receive the in-selection status notice. You must always check your mailbox for further instruction on what new step you are to take. This could be providing a resume, participating in an audition or interview, etc.
- Offered Seat. This means you have been granted admission at SAIT and can proceed to make the tuition deposit.
- Confirmation Paid. Receiving this means your payment has been received. You will receive a Letter of Acceptance by mail.
You will need your Acceptance Letter when applying for a Canadian Study Permit at the Embassy. Your study permit must be ready and submitted to the Office of the Registrar latest one week before the commencement of your program.
