B.C lnvites 95 Immigration Candidates In New Tech Pilot Draw

British Columbia sent out invitations to 95 immigration candidates to apply for a provincial nomination for permanent residence on March 9.

The British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) Tech Pilot draw sent out invitations to 95 immigration candidates under the Skills immigration and Express Entry BC categories.

Selected candidates who were from the Skilled Workers and International Graduate subcategories required a provincial score of at least eighty (80).

The province has now conducted twelve (12) draws so far this year, bringing the total number of invitations released to date to 1,926 in 2021.

Invited immigration candidates have thirty (30) calendar days to apply for the nomination.

About the Tech Pilot Program

The BC PNP Tech Pilot is a fast-track Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) for tech workers and international student. Candidates needed to be registered in one of British Columbia’s existing provincial immigration streams and have a valid job offer of at least twelve (12) months in one of the Tech Pilot’s twenty-nine (29) eligible occupations.

To apply for the Express Entry BC or Skills Immigration categories candidates must first create a valid profile through the BC PNP’s online portal and register under its Skill Immigration Registration System (SIRS).

Applicants are assessed and awarded a score that determines whether they may be invited to apply in a certain invitation round. The score is normally based on a number of factors such as level of education, years of direct work experience and having a British Columbia job offer. Tech Pilot draws are conducted every week.

The pilot project was introduced in May 2017, following a labor market study that found the biggest issue confronting B.C.’s tech sector was access to talent.

So, the Tech Pilot was created to support the tech sector’s growth by facilitating easy movement of workers with in-demand skills to immigrate to British Columbia province. The pilot has been extended several times, most recently until June 2021.

About Express Entry For Tech Pilot

The Tech Pilot is linked to the federal Express Entry immigration application management system.

Express Entry candidates are awarded points based on human capital factors such as work experience, age, education, and language proficiency in French or English under the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). They must also meet the minimum requirements for one of IRCC’s Express Entry programs:

As a provincial nominee, you may obtain an extra 600 points under the CRS and therefore have a score good enough to receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) in future federal Express Entry draw.

Express Entry draws continue to be conducted on a regular basis despite current travel restrictions and border closures. PNPs have continued to operate throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, and there is no sign of their activities abating in 2021.
