British Columbia Institute of Technology Scholarships
As a full-time student enrolled in or accepted for an eligible program in BCIT, you have the opportunity to apply for any of the numerous scholarship opportunities and grants available in the school.
In the British Columbia Institute of Technology, full-time students are usually those who are taking up to 60% or more of the total workload for a specific study time.
There are several scholarship schemes available for students in the British Columbia Institute of Technology. The school has a friendly financial aids system and readily assists students by awarding scholarships or bursaries to those who have been found eligible.
Below, all of BCIT’s scholarship schemes have been highlighted with details on the eligibility requirements, how and when to apply for each of them.
BCIT Entrance Awards
In BCIT, entrance awards are given to recognize the academic and non-academic achievements of newly admitted students into the school. There are up to about 70 different entrance awards (which are usually monetary) under this scheme.
The scholarship program is typically very competitive and awardees are chosen based on their outstanding performance in secondary or post-secondary studies.
Participation in extracurricular activities, community development programs, and leadership skills may also be included in the factors considered to select awardees.
To be eligible for any of these awards, you must:
- Meet the specific eligibility requirement for the award you chose to apply for
- Be a citizen or permanent resident of Canada
- Have been offered admission into the institution and must be studying full-time. You must also remain a full-time student during the academic period such an award is given out.
How to Apply for BCIT Entrance Awards
Through a single application, you will be able to apply for as many BCIT Entrance Awards you are eligible for. Note that you cannot make more than one application at a time but you can select multiple awards in one application.
If your program starts between April and November 2021, you have an application deadline of August 5, 2021, for the BCIT Entrance Awards. If your program starts between December 2021 and March 2022, you have January 6, 2022, as your application deadline.
Some specific awards under the Entrance Awards allow applications to be submitted only until August 5, 2021.

The British Columbia Institute of Technology also readily grants bursaries to full-time students who show satisfactory progress in their programs but require financial assistance. Such students must have demonstrated that they do not have any other source of financial assistance.
Several bursary programs are available in BCIT. Some are open to all while others are affiliated to specific conditions such as place of origin, gender, or being a member of certain unions. In your application for a bursary, you will be able to tick as many bursary schemes you are eligible and wish to apply for.
You can only receive a BCIT bursary once every calendar year. This means you are eligible to receive bursary just once if your program will last only for a year or less. However, bursaries in BCIT are usually given out in three distinct application periods. Hence, all bursaries fall into any of these three categories:
- Fall term, which is available in October
- Winter term, available in January
- Spring term, available in June
After submitting an application, you can only be considered for a bursary if:
- You are enrolled in the StudentAidBC-eligible BCIT credential program
- You are a full-time student in the school during the bursary application period
- have completed one level of the term of your program, or have studied in the school for at least 4 months if your program is not bounded by levels or terms. This must be within 12 months from the application period. During such time frames, you must have demonstrated satisfactory results will no failures or missing grades.
- You have been assessed for financial aid by applying to the StudentAidBC. If you are not residing in British Columbia, you must have been accessed through the government student assistance loan program in your province or territory.
How to Apply BCIT Bursaries
If you need financial support while you are studying at BCIT, you can apply for a bursary by completing the student bursary application form. There is usually a bursary application period during which you will be able to submit your application.
The form is available through the Student Financial Aid and Awards which opens 8 am to 4 pm Monday through Friday during the bursary application period. You may also contact the department on telephone: 604-432-8555.
Your completed form will be submitted to firstname.lastname@example.org latest by 4 pm on the application deadline day.
If you get selected for a bursary award, the bursary cheque will be mailed to you within two weeks after the bursary is disbursed. To ensure your bursary gets to you, make sure you fill in your current email address correctly in the application form.
You will be able to determine if you were selected for a bursary or not by logging into your myBCIT account and using the Student Self-Service option.
Other Things to Note about British Columbia Institute of Technology Scholarships
Despite the numerous British Columbia Institute of Technology scholarship awards, the school also allows students to seek bursaries, scholarships, and other financial assistance from willing external sources.
If you get selected for any of the scholarship or bursary programs provided by the school, you may lose such an award if you are no longer found eligible or if you demonstrate an attitude of misconduct.
Bursary funds are limited and not all those who apply will be selected as those who are considered most eligible are given priority. If you feel you are in dire need of a bursary and you were not selected, you have the opportunity to submit a bursary appeal. Such an appeal must explicitly explain your circumstances and prove that you are in real need of financial aid.

The Student Financial Aid and Awards Office give financial guidance to students of BCIT on funding their studies and how best they can manage their finances all through their period of study in the school.
