Claresholm, Alberta, Opens Applications For Rural And Northern Immigration Pilot
Claresholm, Alberta, accepted applications for the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP) program on February 11. Located an hour and a half drive south of Calgary, the town of Claresholm will recommend about Twenty (20) immigrants and their families for Canadian permanent residence in 2020.
Claresholm is the latest community to open its doors to foreign immigrants. The five other communities now accepting applications through the pilot program include:
- Brandon, Manitoba
- Altona/Rhineland, Manitoba
- Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario
- Vernon, British Columbia
- Claresholm, Alberta
The Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot is created to support local communities facing labour shortages by linking employers with skilled immigrants.
Candidates are required to have a valid job offer for a full-time permanent position in one of the participating juridictions.
Out of the Eleven (11) communities involved in the program, six have yet to begin accepting applications:
- North Bay, Ontario
- Sudbury, Ontario
- Timmin, Ontario
- Thunder Bay, Ontario
- Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan
- West Kootenay (Trail, Rossland, Castlegar, Nelson), British Columbia
Immigrating to Claresholm through the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot
All applicants interested in applying for a recommendation through the RNIP must first pass the federal government’s eligibility requirements. A minimum of one year of working experience, meet language requirements, education requirement, as well as show that they have sufficient funds to support themselves among other requirements.
After determining that they meet federal requirements, candidates may then open a profile on the Claresholm RINP Portal. Candidates may then put in for the jobs listed in the portal and are allowed to have about three active applications at a time, but may withdraw at any moment if a better opportunity arises. It is strongly suggested that candidates only apply for positions that are connected with their education and experience.
Once candidates get a job offer, the Town of Claresholm will recommend that they become permanent residents. Although, they will still need to apply for a work permit in the course of their application process.
