Economical insurance Scholarship

These scholarships were created in 2013 by the generosity of Economical Insurance, in support of excellence in the field of Actuarial Mathematics education. The Economical Insurance Scholarships are awarded through competition, based on academic performance, to full-time undergraduate students pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Honours or Bachelor of Arts or Specialization in the field of Actuarial Mathematics, or in the Specialization Actuarial Mathematics/Finance. This Economical insurance scholarship is based on academic awards and it is non-renewable.

  • Be a full-time student pursuing a bachelor of arts or science degree

  • At least 3 academic terms completed in a program

Brian T. Counihan Scholarship

This scholarship was created in honor of Brian T. Counihan’s contributions and efforts to student life over his 25 years as the first Dean of Students of Concordia University Montreal.

Direct applications for this scholarship are unaccepted – Successful candidates must be selected by any Faculty or Staff member of the university community who knows the student’s achievements and contributions to student life at Concordia University Montreal. The scholarship is granted on the basis of scholastic achievement

Morneau Sheppell Student Scholarship

The Morneau Sheppell student scholarship was established in 2010 through the generosity of Morneau-Sheppell, the largest Canadian-based Human Resource services company, this scholarship award is intended to reward excellence in Undergraduate Actuarial Mathematics undergraduate students who are entering their 2nd years of studies. This scholarship has a value of $2500.

Peter Matthews Memorial Scholarship

This Scholarship is intended to reward and encourage students currently enrolled in the Computer Science and Software Engineering faculty at Concordia University Montreal. Quebec Merit Scholarship Program for Foreign Nationals (PBEEE)

Quebec Merit Scholarship Program for Foreign Students (PBEEE) is only applicable to international students and researchers. It also focuses on encouraging the internationalization of research activities in Québec’s universities.

PBEEE also helps Québec to grab the interests of the best international researchers and students to the province.

More so, PBEEE is available to graduate students and postdoctoral researchers from various countries, including 6-specific components for international students from Brazil, China, India, Israel, Mexico, as well as from Wallonia.

Doctoral research scholarships:

These scholarships avail funds to Concordia University’s international students with up to $25,000 yearly for a period of 3 years.

It exempts you from paying Concordia University’s international tuition fees, as well as the health insurance coverage provided by La Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ).

Postdoctoral scholarships:

Via these scholarships, international students at Concordia University are funded with $35,000 annually. It is non-renewable, and ideal for new researchers who got their degree not later than 2 years prior to the point in the time scheduled for competition.

Short-term research or professional development scholarships:

It is also specified for researchers who finished a Doctorate Degree in a maximum of five (5) years prior to the point in time for competition (Option B).

The application process for Quebec Merit Scholarship Programs for Foreign Nationals (PBEEE)

  1. Before anything else, you’re required to submit your “Pre-Selection Application Form for Doctoral, Postdoctoral or Short-Term Research” to your nominating department at Concordia University
  2. Secondly, your referee needs to submit a “Letter of Reference Form” to the nominating department
  3. Thirdly, supervisors are mandated to submit a “Letter of Acceptance of the Supervisor” to your nominating department. (This is only applicable to postdoctoral and short-term research levels)
  4. Moreover, the department needs to send a “Nominating Department Submission Form” via email for each recommended candidate to the School of Graduate Studies. For each international student, the department will have to send a separate PDF file
  5. If you’re among the preselected candidates, you will receive a notification from the School of Graduate Studies.

Afterward, you need to sign up for an account through the FRQnet system.

Thus, all preselected candidates will be contacted by Fonds de Recherchés du Quèbec – Nature et Technologies (FRQNT), and will be requested to fill out an electronic form.

You will also have to attach some required documents and submit them together with the electronic form via FRQnet.

Submissions required of Quebec Universities

Quebec Universities may be required to submit the following on behalf of international students;

  1. 4 nominations to the unrestricted competition for each competition: V1, V2 and V3
  2. 1 nomination for Brazil for each competition: 1B Doctoral; 2B Postdoctoral; 3B Short Term Research
  3. 1 nomination for Israel for the two-mentioned competitions: 1IS Doctoral; 3IS Short Term Research. Thus, postdoctoral competition is not open for this aspect
  4. 1 nomination for India for each competition: 1I Doctoral; 2I Postdoctoral; 3I Short Term Research
  5. 1 nomination for Wallonia for the two-mentioned competitions: 1W Doctoral and 3W Short Term Research. Postdoctoral competition is not applicable here.

Besides, the Quebec-Wallonia competition is available to French-speaking Belgium citizens

Eligibility requirements of Quebec Merit Scholarship Programs for Foreign Nationals (PBEEE)

  • If you are a Canadian citizen or permanent residents, you are not eligible for PBEEE
  • You must partake, and get selected via Concordia/internal PBEEE selection process
  • Also, you must not have any previous application with Immigration, Refugees, Citizenship and Canada (IRCC) for a Canadian permanent residency
  • You need to be preselected by a university or the Réseau Trans-tech and its College Centers for the Transfer of Technology (CCTT) before a specified date
  • Must have been preselected by the China Scholarship Council (CSC) for Québec-China scholarship
  • Ultimately, you are ineligible if you’ve been awarded with a Merit Scholarship for Foreign Students from Ministère d’èducation et de l’enseignement Supèrieur (MEES), Fonds de Recherchés du Quèbec – Nature et Technologies (FRQNT), or with Fonds de Recherche du Québec – Société et Culture (FRQSC)
