CONCORDIA ACADEMICS

Concordia University Academic studies begin in September or, in some cases, January or May. Here, an undergraduate degree usually takes between three to four years of studying full-time to complete, a master’s degree takes between a year and a half to three years, while a Ph.D. takes at least four years duration. Certificates and diplomas normally will take no longer than a year and six months to complete.

Concordia University has more than 400 undergraduate programs in the Faculty of Arts and Science, the Gina Cody School of Engineering and Computer Science, the Faculty of Fine Arts, and the John Molson School of Business. Student enrollments are often in one of these faculties, however, courses may be taken from any of the other faculties as part of their studies. Class sizes vary between 30 to 400 students.

Also, the School of Graduate Studies offers close to 70 programs leading to master’s and doctoral degrees, in conjunction with graduate diplomas and certificates for professionals seeking to upgrade their knowledge and skills.

Note as a traditional Undergraduate International student, you are eligible for a $10,000 scholarship per year. However, you must maintain satisfactory academic progress in order to renew this scholarship.

Concordia University Scholarships For International Students

Below are the available scholarships for international students at the Concordia University of Edmonton. The University does offer some scholarships, Awards, and bursaries for qualified international students.

Undergraduate Awards and Scholarships

There are 4 different types of financial aids on offer to students at Concordia University. These are:

  • Merit Scholarships:
    • These are scholarships not based on need. Traditional undergraduate students are the only group of students eligible for merit scholarships. Therefore, admission determines whether a student is eligible for a merit scholarship as it is based on the student’s academic standing.
  • Grants:
    • These are considered gift aid. The amount of gift aid you can receive as a student nevertheless depends on your financial need, your enrollment status, with several other factors. Thus, if you are eligible for gift aid, it will be added as part of your financial award package.
  • Loans:
    • Loans are self-help aid. Should you receive loans, you must agree to the repayment and enrollment status and terms specified for the loan.
  • Federal work-study:
    • This is a form of need-based, self-help aid. Note that this award is not credited to your student account. It functions when you apply for an on-campus job and earns the award depending on the number of hours you put in for work for a Federal Work-Study Employer.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)

Scholarship Value: up to $1,500 per year (based on enrollment & fund availability)
Award Requirements: You must meet all of the following award requirements:

  • Must not already have a degree
  • Be enrolled in at least 6 hours of study work
  • Does not require any EFC.

Texas Tuition Equalization Grant (TEG)

Eligible Degrees: Traditional UG, ADP On Ground
Scholarship Value: up to $5,130 per year (based on EFC, enrollment & fund availability)
Award Requirements: You must meet all of the following award requirements:

  • You must not already have a degree or be pursuing a degree/career in church work
  • be enrolled in at least 9 hours of study work
  • Must be a Texas resident & have lived in Texas for the last 12 months
  • Be below a certain EFC

Renewal Requirements: In order to renew the scholarship you must also meet the following requirements:

  • Ensure to complete 24 hours at CTX during the previous aid year
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
  • Have a minimum completion rate of 75%

Concordia Partnership Grant

Eligible Degrees: Traditional UG, ABSN, ADP On Ground, ADP Online
Scholarship Value: $50 per credit hour
Award Requirements: You must meet all of the following award requirements:

  • Must be working as a full-time, paid employee of a Concordia University Texas Employer Partner
  • Ensure to complete the Employer Partnership Program (EPP) Certification of Employment each year.

Concordia Merit Scholarships

Eligible Degrees: Traditional UG only; awarded by Admissions upon admittance to CTX
Scholarship Value: Varies
Award Requirements: You must meet all of the following award requirements:

  • Must be enrolled as a full-time student i.e. must fulfill 12 or more hours of study each semester to qualify to receive payment.

Renewal Requirements: To renew you must also meet the following requirements:

  • Ensure to complete 28 credit hours of study each year for renewal, this is evaluated in May of each year.
  • Must meet the required cumulative GPA each year for renewal; this varies by scholarship as indicated in the table below.

Award Requirements: You must meet all of the following award requirements:

  • You must be enrolled as a full-time student. That is with 12 or more hours of study each semester to receive payment

Renewal Requirements: As an eligible student you must also meet the following requirements:

  • Obtain a 5 GPA each semester for the previous year. i.e. Fall and Spring; not cumulative
  • Must complete 24 credit hours of study each year for renewal (evaluated in May of each year)

  • be a junior or senior accepted into the College of Education
    • Obtained a minimum 3.25 undergraduate GPA
    • You will agree to teach in a school of low-income and in a high-need field for four years after you complete your program.
    • You must complete the TEACH counseling and Agreement to Serve (ATS)

Important Info: If you fail to meet or maintain all eligibility requirements for the TEACH Grant, the Department of Education will convert the TEACH Grant to a direct unsubsidized loan and will calculate the interest based on the date the TEACH Grant was disbursed to you.

Federal Direct Student Loans

The Federal Direct Subsidized Loan is a need-based loan.

However, the Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan is not a need-based loan. The interest rate for both loans is 2.75% and the lender is the Department of Education.

Award Requirements: You must meet all of the following award requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • If you are a male student, you must be registered with the Selective Service
  • Must not be in default on any federal student loan
  • You must not owe an overpayment for a federal grant
  • Mustn’t have reached or exceeded the annual or aggregate loan limits
  • You must be enrolled at half-time status
  • Ensure to complete the Loan Entrance Counseling and the Master Promissory Note. This should be done during the first award year in which you accept federal direct student loans.
  • Ensure to complete the Loan Exit Counseling once you graduate, leave college or drop below half-time enrollment.
