Dalhousie University Scholarships Application Process

Eligible Students

  • Students eligible to apply for a bursary at Dal include; Undergraduates, Diploma of Dental Hygiene, and Master of Social Work students. Click here to view  full eligibility criteria.

Apply Online

  • You will be able to apply when the application is made available through Dal Online during the dates listed below. Follow these steps to apply:
    • Login to Dal Online, select the “Student Awards and Financial Aid” menu option, then select “Apply for Financial Aid”.

Email Required Documents

  •  After applying online, you are required to mail all required documentation to [email protected] with the subject of “Bursary Application.”
  • Note, you may only apply for a bursary once per academic term.
  • Final Decisions regarding the status of your application will be sent to your Dalhousie email address not more than two weeks after you must have submitted your completed application.
  • Your bursary funds will be paid in late October via email Interac e-transfer.
  • Should you have any reason to have missed the bursary deadline, and thereafter, find yourself in financial need, you will do well to contact the Awards and Financial Aid Office at [email protected] to explore other available options.
  • Also, If you already have received a bursary for a current term nevertheless, still find you are now experiencing unexpected emergency costs, please contact the Awards and Financial Aid Office at [email protected] to explore your options.

This scholarship is for Iranian citizens who are residents of Iran. A student automatically is considered for this award on the basis of his/her Iranian citizenship status. The Scholarship is valued of $30,000 and it is for the masters and doctoral program students. Scholarship applications are received through Dalhousie’s Harmonized Scholarship award Process.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the scholarship, you must

Allan And Lura Bevan Memorial Scholarship

The Allan And Lura Bevan Memorial Scholarship is to be granted to a student in the Major program. In the absence of any qualified candidate from the Major program, the scholarship will be granted to a student entering the third or fourth year of the Honours program. The scholarship award is valued $1000. The award selection will be made by the school of performing Arts.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this scholarship, you must

  • Be entering your 3rd or 4th year of the Majors program
  • Be entering your 3rd or 4th year of the minors program

W. Andrew MacKay Alumni Scholarships

This scholarship has a value range of $1,500 – $3,000. This scholarship is awarded to students who show full dedication in the Dalhousie community leadership.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this scholarship, you must

  • have registered full-time course per year
  • have a minimum CGPA of 3.30
  • Be a full-time student at the university.

The Avie Bennett Prize

This Prize is awarded every year to the best essay on Canadian literature submitted from an undergraduate level at Dalhousie during the current academic year. The prize is valued at $500 with a complete set of the New Canadian Library.

Eligibility

To qualify for this Prize, you must

  • Essays should be focused explicitly on a Canadian literary topic
  • must be must be written in English.
  • Essays must be nominated by instructors;
  • clean copies should be submitted within the specified date.

The Malcolm Ross Graduate Scholarship

The malcom Ross Scholarship offers an annual scholarship to a student entering the Master of Arts program in English at Dalhousie University. This scholarship is renewable and has a value of $100,000 – $25,000.

The Graham Creighton Prize

This Prize is awarded each year to a student entering the 4th year of study (i.e. having completed 90 credit hours) in an English Honours or Major (including Combined Honours or Double Major) program who has demonstrated a high level of academic performance.
