How To Save Money On Your Credential Assessment From WES

Any candidate submitting a profile to Canada’s Express Entry pool must show some level of education. Except a candidate’s education was completed at a recognized Canadian learning institution then these educational qualifications must be accompanied by an Educational Credentials Assessment (ECA) in order to be considered.

An Educational Credentials Assessment report is a document that indicates how much a foreign educational certificate is worth by Canadian educational standards. No matter where you try to get your credential assessment report, there will be a fee attached. We have put together some useful tips to make you save as much money as possible on your ECA report.

Based on the general observation many candidates prefer to complete their credential evaluation with World Education Services (WES) as their instructions are simple and they usually complete the ECA report quicker than any of the other organizations.

Please note that those candidates with degrees in medicine and Pharmacy degrees must complete their ECA report with the Medical Council of Canada and Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada, respectively.

Below are some useful tips for saving some money on the credential evaluation.

What is World Education Service (WES)?

World Education Service (WES) is a recognized organization authorized to register Education Credential Assessment ( ECA). The six organizations include

  1. World Education Service (WES)
  2. International Credential Assessment Service of Canada (ICAS)
  3. Comparative Education Service- University of Toronto (CES)
  4. International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS)
  5. Medical Council of Canada (for doctors)
  6. International Credential Evaluation Service (ICES)
  7. Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada (for pharmacist)

It all depends on you to know the organization that suits you. The important thing is that all the organizations complete their evaluation. The difference will now be the processing time and the processing fee.

For instance, WES completes the ECA report within 20 working days once you have submitted all necessary documents whereas some organizations may take months to do that. It all depends on you to choose which organization is best for you.

Furthermore, you should note that if you have a degree in medicine or pharmacy, you must not go through WES for your ECA, you must do your credential evaluation through the Medical Council of Canada and Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada respectively.

Steps to complete your ECA report through WES

There are three simple steps to take if you want to complete your ECA report through WES.

  • Step 1: Submit your application and receive your WES reference number.
  • Step 2: Read WES document requirements and send your documents
  • Steps 3: WES verifies your credentials, creates your report, and delivers it to your recipients.

Requirements for WES

For your ECA report through WES, you must provide the following educational information before your ECA report will be completed by WES.

Equivalency Country: You put the country in which you want to migrate into for your studies. In this case, Canada is the equivalency country since you want to study in Canada. Your education must be equivalent to a Canadian high school or post-secondary school institution.

Country of Education: the country where you completed your education.

  • Status of your Education
  • Type of Education
  • Name of the Institution

How to save money on your credential assessment through WES

Below are some useful tips for saving some money on the credential evaluation through WES

Be sure to select the correct report

When you open an account on the WES website, you will be prompted to select which type of report you want:

  •  WES Standard Application, or
  • ECA Application for IRCC.

Ensure that you select the second option, (i.e ECA Application for IRCC). This option will be cheaper than the WES standard application, and it ensures that a copy of your report is forwarded directly to IRCC.

Select Standard Shipping

When you select a delivery option you will have two alternatives for shipping:

  • Standard Mail through Canada Post – $7.00, or
  • International Courier (TNT or UPS based on country) – $85.00

To save your hard-earned money choose the first option for Standard Mail shipping. This means that the hard copy of your ECA report will be forwarded to you by mail with a much slower option and that there will be no tracking on the report, thus if it gets lost in the post there will be nothing much you can do.

But, with the current WES policy, whenever WES completes your evaluation they will send you an electronic PDF version of the ECA Report.

The Express Entry system for immigration will only request the PDF version, you don’t need the hard copy. So for this reason, we recommend that you save on the shipping for the hard copy and choose the cheaper option.

Don’t bother forwarding the report to additional recipients

When you have concluded the report with WES they will automatically forward a copy to IRCC. Other than this, you may not need to forward a copy of the ECA report to any other recipients.

As stated above, you will be issued an electronic PDF version of the report when it’s completed – just keep this PDF on file in case you need the ECA report in the nearest future. If anyone asks for it you can forward them the PDF.

Evaluate all higher education at once

In order to save money, we suggest you evaluate all your multiple-degree credentials at once, as WES charges their rates per individual application and not per degree. So, if submit all your multi-degrees for evaluation at the same time, you will be charged the same rates for the ECA report as if you had only submitted for one Degree.

But, if you only submit let’s say the bachelor’s Degree for evaluation and then a few months later you decide you want an ECA for your Master’s Degree as well, then you will be charged the full rates for a new ECA report.

Thus, the above points are a few simple tips to follow to make sure you are saving some money if you complete an ECA report with World Education Services (WES). If you need to make some more inquiries, connect with us below via the comment section.
