Langara College General Scholarships, Bursaries and Awards Vancouver, Canada

Students receive financial aid in various ways at Langara College. Langara college general scholarships and awards are given to students to recognize and encourage their outstanding performance in academics and/or extra-curricular and community activities. Bursaries are given to students who are in need of financial support and are eligible based on certain criteria.

Langara college general scholarships, bursaries, and awards are nonrepayable and usually will not hinder students from taking other students’ loans, financial supports, and external awards.

Chartwells Awards of Excellence

This is awarded to students of Langara College who are taking a degree, diploma, associate degree, or university transfer programs. The Chartwells Awards include one award for academic excellence in a degree program and the other for academic excellence in an associate or career program.

Degree students must have completed a minimum of 90 credits and must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 to be eligible for the award. University transfer, associate degree, and diploma students must have completed a minimum of 30 credits and must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 to be eligible.

B.Sc. Nursing students are not to apply for this award as Chartwells has an award specified for them.

Dora M. Ross Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship award goes to a single parent who is taking a full-time program at Langara College and has completed at least one semester as a full-time student in the past two semesters. Students are required to apply for this award. To be eligible students must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in the last semester.

Eduventure Award

The Eduventure Award is given to a full-time student taking Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Math and Statistics, Physics, or Engineering at Langara College.

Students are required to apply for this award after which one beneficiary will be selected. Students who are eligible to apply are those who have the highest academic improvements in the past two semesters and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. Students who are to apply are also those who are in need of financial support and are able to demonstrate it.

Students are to submit a one-page letter explaining how they meet all the stated criteria. The Eduventure Award is available for the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters.

Jade Volunteering Excellence Award

A student who is enrolled in a Regular Studies and full-time program and is also registered for the VOLT program benefits from this award. The student to be selected must have shown a recognizable and exemplary contribution to volunteering needs on the campus.

Such volunteer participations are those which are not part of the student’s program and do not give any form of compensation to students.

Students who are currently enrolled in 9 credits or who are enrolled in 9 credits in the immediate past semester may be selected for this award.

Langara International Education Scholarship

Every fall, spring, and summer semester, two international students benefit from the Langara International Education Scholarship. Selected students are those who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement.

Leon and Simma Holt Arts & Science Scholarship

A full-time Arts and Science student of Langara College with outstanding academic performance benefit from this scholarship every semester.

The following are the eligibility requirements for all kinds of scholarships at Langara College:

  • Being a full-time Regular Studies student for that semester which the scholarship is applicable for.
  • Excellent academic performance with at least a cumulative GPA of 3.50.
  • Being currently enrolled in a minimum of nine credit courses. Students must have also been enrolled in at least nine credit courses in one of the immediate past two semesters.
  • Students must have been in at least their third semester of study or in the second semester when taking one-year career or vocational programs.
  • Students must meet any other eligibility criteria specified by the donor of the scholarship.

Students with registered disabilities through Accessibility Services or StudentAid BC are required to enroll in a minimum of six credit courses only and not nine to be eligible for scholarships.

Some donors allow part-time students to benefit from their scholarships. Such students must register in six to eight credits (Regular Studies programs) in that semester when the scholarship is applicable and also in at least one of the immediate past two semesters.

Students who are simultaneously enrolled in other institutions, i.e. split enrollment students must also enroll in a minimum of nine credits to be eligible for scholarships.

Where a scholarship must be given to only a few students even when many meet the minimum cumulative GPA requirement, students with the highest cumulative GPA will be selected. From those, students who are taking the highest number of credits for that semester and one of the immediate past two semesters will be selected.

Bursaries at Langara College

49 Women in Science Bursary

This bursary is available for female students who are taking Biology, Chemistry, Computing Science and Information System, Math and Statistics, Physics and Astronomy, and Engineering programs. such female students must be in need of financial aid to be eligible.

Aliza and Chaim Kornfield Foundation Bursary

This bursary is available for second-year students who are enrolled in the Theatre Arts (Studio 58) program. The bursary provides financial support for students who need assistance to be able to complete the program.

Bioinformatics First Year Faculty Bursary

Every year, a full-time student in the first year of the B.Sc. program in Bioinformatics benefits from this bursary. Students who can apply must have completed at least nine credits in Bioinformatics and should be able to demonstrate the need for financial support.

Entrance Bursaries

Also known as the High School Entrance Bursary, this financial aid is for students who have completed their high school education and are going to start taking programs at Langara College. The students must have been fully enrolled in the school and should be able to demonstrate financial need.

Fraser Taylor Memorial Bursary

The Fraser Taylor Memorial Bursary is for students who have completed at least three courses in Anthropology at Langara College. Students must also be currently enrolled in one or more Anthropology course(s). Students who should apply are those with a minimum GPA of 2.5 and are in need of financial support. Only a student benefits from this bursary annually.

Langara Students’ Union Community Service Bursary

Students who are active participants in community service and public activities can benefit from this bursary. Such students must demonstrate financial need but will also be backed up by a letter of recommendation from community organizations to indicate their effective participation in community service.
