MacEwan University Admission Requirements For International Students

Below is the MacEwan University admission requirements for international students. The requirements are based on three criteria which are.,

Regular Admission

Eligibility

To be eligible for this, you must

  • Have a minimum average of 65%
  • Have atleast 50% in the following courses: ELA 30-1 and four subjects from Group A,B,C or D.
  • Group B subjects from different disciplines must be presented that is fine Arts
  • Produce broad range of subjects which helps to increase your course choices.
  • Have a minimum average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale that is for those with nine or more credits.
  • Group D subjects must be presented. The group D subjects are optional that is not from the sciences, humanities or Fine Arts.

Mature Admission

Eligibility

To be eligible for this, you must

  • Be up to 20 years of age and above
  • Must be out of high school for at least a year
  • Be a minimum average of 65%
  • Have a ‘C’ in at least 3 credits of university-level English.
  • Possess a minimum average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale that is for those with nine or more credits.

Previous Post-Secondary Admission

Eligibility

To be eligible, you must

  • Possess a minimum Admission Grade Point Average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • have completed your high school courses
  • Have A MacEwan University diploma

Note

All applicants must meet the English Language proficiency requirement. This must include proof of successful completion of standardized language evaluation and official documents of high school or post-secondary transcripts.

It is important to note that unless an earlier closing date is indicated, as an international applicant you must apply by May 1 for Fall intake, September 30 for Winter intake, and January 30 for Spring/Summer intake.

In addition, any international student who is considering a Open Studies should consult with an International Students advisor before submitting an application.

English Language Proficiency

IELTS–Academic

  • Minimum overall band score of 6.5 and a minimum score of 5.5 in each band.

TEST OF ENGLISH AS FOREIGN LANGUAGE (TOEFL)

  • Internet-Based Test (iBT)
  • Minimum total score of 86 and a minimum score of 21 in each section.

Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL)

  • Minimum overall band score of 70 and a minimum score of 60 in each band.

Exemptions

If you are an applicant who is completely bilingual and fluent in English, you are hence entitled to submit a written petition to the Office of the University Registrar providing evidence that your English language proficiency exceeds the specified minimum levels, and therefore, requesting exemption from the English language proficiency (ELP) requirement.

If you are fully bilingual and fluent in English, your petition should detail:

  • your background;
  • your educational and personal experience with English;
  • the language of instruction throughout your schooling and the language you use at home and on a daily basis;
  • why you believe that an exception to the requirement is warranted in your situation.

Also, attestations from your former English instructors and reports of any standardized English language proficiency tests may be supportive of your petition.

  • If you have an academic record or document that’s in your possession, it is considered an original document. It is however, unofficial because it is open and has not been sent directly to MacEwan University from the issuing institution or authority.
  • Documents are considered official when sent directly from your issuing authority or institution(s) to the Office of the University Registrar (exceptions are rare). Document images uploaded to the MyDocuments tile or original documents in your possession cannot be considered official by admissions.

MacEwan University Scholarships For International Students

MacEwan University offers a variety of scholarships, awards, prizes and bursaries to bachelor students pursuing post-secondary education.

In the 2018/2019 academic session, the Student Awards Office managed the distribution of $8.4 million worth of scholarships awards, all acquired from internal and external sources to over 6,000 students.
