    • Updates on your application status are sent within 4-5 weeks after the receipt of the necessary documents through OUAC.

Admission Requirements

The underlisted are nine common curriculums that are undertaken and acceptable to McMaster University.

General Requirements for Admission

Applications using the American High School Curriculum are perused for admission based on McMaster’s internal calculation of the admission average. Note, this admission calculations may differ from those used by other institutions. This include:

  • A 5 Grade 12 or Senior academic subjects or a combination of equivalents from IB, AP, SAT II Subject Tests.
  • A Grade 12 English or English Literature mandatory for all programs.
  • Math & Science equivalents:
    • Biology: 2 years or 2 complete credits (Junior and Senior) or AP Biology (or equivalent)
    • Calculus: 4 years of high school Mathematics in addition to Pre-Calculus and AP Calculus (either AB or BC exam) or equivalent.
    • Chemistry: 2 years or 2 complete credits (Junior and Senior) or AP Chemistry (or equivalent)
    • Physics: 2 years or 2 complete credits (Junior and Senior) or AP Physics (or equivalent)
  • Pass an AP Challenge exam with a minimum score of 4 or 5 and can be used instead of one science/math requirement should the subject not be offered at your school.
  • SAT II Subject Test with a score of at least 670 may be considered on a case-by-case basis in the stead of one math/science requirement.
  • If you are a student submitting AP courses you will be required to complete the AP Examinations through the University College Board with minimum grades of 3 for consideration.
  • To be eligible you must make a minimum average of 80% (this includes all required subjects). Keep in mind that admission is competitive, therefore, many programs will require grades and averages well above the 80% for admission consideration.

  • Your 2nd quartile results can be used for consideration for a conditional offer of admission provided at least 2 of the 5 required courses have been completed and grades presented.
  • Grade 9, 10, 11 and Grade 12, 2nd quartile results are required.
  • SAT and SAT II Subject Test results. These must be sent from the College Board directly and is not acceptable electronically.
  • Your SAT minimum: You must obtain an overall score of 1200 or greater (this include the reading and Math sections only), obtain a minimum score of 600 in each section

  • ACT – Have a minimum composite score of 27 or greater. The Institutional Code for ACT at McMaster is 5326.


General Requirements for Admission

  • Your must obtain a minimum of five subjects, three distinct GCE Advanced Level(A2) or International ‘A’ Level subjects and 2 GCSE/IGCSE/ ‘O’ level subjects.
  • Should possess a English or English as a Second Language accepted for English requirement
    • The Humanities programs requires ordinary (O-level) English or Advanced level (A2) English.
  • All math and science required courses must be presented at the A2 level.
