McMaster University, commonly called Mac is a public research university in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. McMaster University main campus is sited on a 121 hectares “300 acres” parcel of land near the residential neighborhoods of Ainslie Wood and Westdale, adjacent to the Royal Botanical Gardens.

McMaster University operates six academic faculties, these are:

McMaster University is a member of the U15, which is a group of research – intensive universities in Canada.


The university was named after William McMaster, who was a popular Canadian senator and banker who gifted C$900,000 to the university’s founding. In 1887, McMaster University was incorporated under the terms of an act of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario by the merging of Toronto Baptist College with Woodstock College.

It therefore, began operations in Toronto in 1890. Thereafter, due to inadequate facilities and the subsequent gift of land in Hamilton started the process of its relocation in 1930. The university was under the governing and control of the Baptist Convention of Ontario and Quebec until it became a privately chartered, publicly funded non-denominational institution in 1957.

McMaster University Capacity

McMaster University has more than 27,000 undergraduate and more than 4,000 post-graduate students in various degree programs across its six faculties. The university’s alumni and former students are spread across Canada and living in 139 countries of the world.

McMaster’s athletic teams are known as the Marauders, and are members of U-Sports. The university’s notable alumni include government officials, academics, business leaders, Rhodes Scholars, Gates-Cambridge Scholars, and Nobel laureates.

McMaster operates the semester system, operating year-round academic semesters, fall/winter and spring/summer. In the 2016–2017 academic year, the university had an enrolment of 31,265 students; comprising of 26,780 undergraduate students and 4,485 graduate students.

Canada-CARICOM Leadership Scholarships Program

The Canada-CARICOM Leadership Scholarships Program provides students from the Caribbean Countries with short-term exchange opportunities for research or study in Canada, at the college, undergraduate and post-graduate levels.

Students hereby referred to as “candidates”, have to be registered as full-time students in their home University at the point of application and during the entire period of their research or study in Canada.


To be eligible for this scholarship, You must

  • Be a citizen of the CARICOM countries
  • Not been enrolled in any degree or diploma course in any Canadian institution
  • Have a Canadian permanent residency
  • Be enrolled full-time at a post-secondary institution in a recognized country
  • Not be participating in any scholarship program

Canada-Chile Leadership Exchange Scholarship

The Canada-Chile Leadership Exchange Scholarship program provides students from Chile with short-term exchange opportunities for research or study in Canada, at the college, undergraduate and post-graduate levels.

Students hereby referred to as “candidates”, need to be registered as full-time students in their home university at the period of application and in the course of the entire period of their study or research stay in Canada.


To be eligible for this scholarship, you must

  • Be or have applied for Canada’s permanent residence
  • Be Chile Citizens
  • Be a full-time student at a post-secondary school in Chile
  • Be proficient in the Canadian language of instruction

Application Deadline

The application deadline is June-March

Canada-CARICOM Faculty Leadership Program

The Canada-CARICOM Faculty Leadership Program provides international liaison officers/managers and/or faculty from the Caribbean Countries, with short-term exchange opportunities for professional advancement, graduate study or research at Canadian higher institutions.


To be eligible for this scholarship, you must

  • Be citizens of the CARICOM countries
  • Not been enrolled in any degree or diploma course in any Canadian institution
  • Be fully employed as faculty managers in any higher institution
  • Have a Canadian permanent residency
  • Not be participating in any scholarship program

Application Deadline

The application deadline is June-February

Canada-Brazil Scholarship

The focus of this program is to assist team-oriented research projects between Canadian and Brazilian academic institution collaborating in mutually beneficial fields of research. The collaborations are expected to result in high-quality research that will positively impact Canada and in Brazil through the mobility of both Canadian and Brazilian research students and Project Leads. This program is available to all academic disciplines.


To be eligible for this scholarship, you must

  • have a PhD
  • Have the doctoral title for atleast four years
  • Not be a retired Faculty member
  • Be proficient in the Canadian Language of instruction
  • Be active faculty members

Canada-CARICOM Virtual University Scholarship

The Canada-CARICOM Virtual University Scholarship Program offers scholarships for Canadian university programs to be carried out entirely at a distance. Citizens of, and living in, eligible states of the Caribbean Countries.


To be eligible for this scholarship, you must

  • Not be enrolled in any other institution
  • Be a citizen of the CARICOM countries
  • Demonstrate English or French reading and writing skills

Provost Entrance Scholarship For International Students

This scholarship is a top scholarship in McMaster University for undergraduate international students, it is a special grant issued to international students.

Eligibility: To apply for this special grant, you must be an international student visa holder who have completed a study at a high school in your home country.

To participate in this scholarship, a high school official must issue a reference letter. The reference document must show evidence your academic trajectory, skills, and potential.

The Woo Family International Entrance Scholarship

The Woo Family International Entrance Scholarship was formed in 1999 by Mr. Ching How Woo in honor of his wife.

Ontario Graduate Scholarships

This Graduate Scholarship is a fellowship granted by the Government of the Province of Ontario. The scholarship is merit-based and can be applied to any discipline of academic study.

Eligibility: To be eligible for this award, you must have an average above 80% and maintain it during your time in the program. As an international student you are required to show proficiency in English when applying by submitting a goo test of English score.

It is important to know that the nomination process happens internally in the university and depends on the desired program. Other basic documents such as the application form, academic references, transcripts, plan of study, and previous research experience must be submitted when applying.

The Mccall Macbain Scholarships at Mcgill

The McCall MacBain Scholarships at McGill are Canada’s first comprehensive, leadership-driven scholarships for master’s and professional degree students.

  • Value: This scholarship covers tuition and fees for an eligible master’s or professional program and a living stipend of $2,000 per month during academic terms
  • It is a comprehensive enrichment program which includes; mentorship, interdisciplinary learning and access to a global community.

Rhodes Scholarship

The Rhodes scholarship offers you a chance to study at Oxford University in England for 2-3 years

  • The Scholarship Value: A minimum of $50,000/year for tuition, fees, and living expenses
  • Eleven Rhodes Scholars are chosen from across Canada each year (two in Ontario)
  • You can apply through AwardSpring to be one of McMaster’s nominees


The Schulich entrance awards are given to the very best entrepreneurial-minded (STEM) students that demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, creativity and charisma.

  • Scholarship Value: $100,000 or $80,000 to pursue an undergraduate degree in an eligible STEM program.
  • As a Schulich Leader you get the opportunity to join an elite network and benefit from student enrichment opportunities throughout the year.


The Wilson Leadership Scholar Award was created to recognize and cultivate leadership potentials and also prepare undergraduate and graduate students to serve as Canada’s next generation of leaders.

  • Scholarship Value: $20,000 in direct and $5,000 in experiential funding
  • As a Wilson Leader you get to commit atleast 15 hours per month to meeting with mentors and experts, to take on new experiences and build on your current interests, while pursuing your personal and professional goals.


The Climate Change and Health – Innovation Award recognizes students who have achieved excellence in creating an innovative solution that positively impacts climate change and health.

This award was crated and developed to encourage interdisciplinary team work and collaboration, as well as foster the kind of diverse and inclusive leadership that is necessary to address complex sustainability challenges in our society.



This Scholarship is awarded to two BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, or a Person of Colour) student studying at a Canadian University. To be an eligible applicant you must demonstrate a good academic achievement with a minimum GPA of 3.5 (or equivalent) and be pursuing a career in consumer insights.

Criteria: You will submit a 500 word essay or a short video explaining your interest in a career in consumer insights.
Deadline: March 31, 2021
Value: $4,000 and a 3-month offer of paid employment either between academic years (i.e. summer) or as part of your study requirements (i.e. internship) in the year the scholarship is awarded.


This scholarship is awarded to a student enrolled in a Canadian college or university.

To apply you will have to write a short 500 – 1000 word essay on the impact of how the internet and social media have changed the way that police and law enforcement investigate crimes.

Deadline: August 31, 2021
Value: $1,250


This scholarship is offered by Universities Canada and it rotates between universities from specific provinces each year. Applications are now open to McMaster students from all Faculties who have at minimum completed the first year of their first bachelor degree program by June 16, 2021.
