Prince Edward Island Immigration Draw To Take Place Thursday

Prince Edward Island immigration department will conduct a second draw of 2020 through its Expression of Interest platform on Thursday, February 20.

The Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP) draw will feature invites for the province’s various immigration streams for Express Entry, Labour Impact and Business Impact applicants.

In the only draw conducted in 2020, 123 invites were sent out through the PEI PNP.

Prince Edward Island launched its Expression of Interest system at the beginning of 2018 and has made monthly draws ever since.

A total of 1,629 invites were issued by PEI during 2019. Of these, 1,436 went to Labour Impact and Express Entry applicants, with the remaining 193 assigned to Business Impact candidates.

Prince Edward Island Express Entry Streams

PEI’s Express Entry category works by considering participants already in the federal Express Entry Pool for a provincial nomination.

Such a nomination adds extra 600 points to a candidate’s Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score and effectively assures an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canadian permanent residence.

The PEI Express Entry Category features two routes or pathways to Canadian immigration, one for candidates with a job offer and one for those without a job offer.

Work Permit Stream

Candidates applying under the P.E.I. Work Permit Stream must get a Canadian work permit and work for a P.E.I. employer for a certain amount of time as designated in a Performance Agreement.

After the Performance Agreement is met, the candidate must make a minimum $150,000 investment in the business and commit to operating or supervising the business on a daily basis from within the province.

Previously, Prince Edward Island operated direct permanent residence business streams, but these were cancelled in September 2018 over immigration fraud concerns.
