What is the Express Entry System?
The Express Entry system is an immigration tool operated and managed by Canadian immigration authorities (IRCC) on January 1, 2015, which manages the application of economic skilled immigration to Canada. This includes the Federal Skilled Trades Program, the Federal Skilled Worker Program, and the Canada Experience Class and some aspect of the Provincial Nomination Programs.
Prince Edward Island: Express Entry, Labour Impact invitations
PEI’s Express Entry Stream is for applicants with a valid profile in the federal Express Entry system.
Express Entry manages and controls the pool of candidates for Canada’s three Federal High Skilled economic immigration categories — Federal Skilled Trades Class, the Federal Skilled Worker Class, and Canadian Experience Class.
Express Entry candidates who wish to be considered for a provincial nomination from PEI must open a separate Expression of Interest (EOI) profile under the Prince Edward Island PNP.
These profiles are granted an EOI score out of 100 based on factors such as age, educational qualification, work experience and proficiency in English or French and the highest-ranked applicants are invited to apply for a provincial nomination via the monthly draws.
The PEI PNP says it prioritizes Express Entry applicants who are living and working in PEI.
Express Entry applicants who receive a provincial nomination are granted an extra 600 points toward their Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score.
PEI’s Labour Impact Category is not linked with the Express Entry system and is shared into three Expression of Interest-based streams — Skilled Workers (in PEI and outside Canada), Critical Workers. and International Graduates.
Applicants for these streams must be working in Prince Edward Island or have an eligible long-term, full-time job offer from a Canadian employer in the province, among other criteria.
The PEI PNP has now granted 1,031 invitations to applicants in both the Express Entry and Labour Market Impact categories since the beginning of 2019. The next draw is scheduled to hold October 17, 2019.
PEI’s Business Impact: Work Permit Stream is for qualified foreign entrepreneurs with business ownership or eligible management experience who wish to invest in and oeprate a business in PEI.
The Work Permit stream also run on a points-based expression of interest system and the lowest-ranked applicants in the September 19 draw had a score of 115.
