Queen’s University, also known simply as Queen’s, is a publicly designated research university founded in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. The University owns over 1,400 hectares (3,500 acres) of land in Ontario and Herstmonceux Castle in East Sussex, England. Queen’s University is divided into eight faculties and schools.

It was established as Queen’s College in October 1841 by the Church of Scotland via a royal charter from Queen Victoria. After that, the first classes, intended to equip students for the ministry, began on March 7th, 1842, with 13 students and two professors.

The University is a co-educational institution with more than 23,000 students and over 131,000 alumni living worldwide. Its notable alumni include government officials, academics, business leaders, and 57 Rhodes Scholars.

Queen’s University Graduate Admissions

• Admission requirements: In order to be enrolled as a graduate student in any Master’s Program at Queen’s, you must have obtained at least a second-class standing in one of the following degrees granted by a recognized university

English Language Proficiency Test Scores

At Queen’s University, English is the language of instruction; therefore, as an aspiring student, you must be able to communicate proficiently in English both in writing and orally.

Suppose you, however, are not an indigene of or have not lived in a country where English is the primary language of communication and have not attended an academic institution full-time where English is the medium of instruction for the most recent three years prior to beginning your university studies. In that case, you are required to achieve and submit a satisfactory score on one of the tests of English.

Queen’s University Student Visa Requirements

A Study / Student Permit is required to live and study in Canada. Should you nevertheless intend to work alongside your study, you must apply separately. Documents that are mandatory to apply in order to obtain a Canada Study permit are listed below:

 International Baccalaureate Admission

As a student completing your IB diploma, you may be considered for admission at Queen’s University, provided you meet the following criteria:

• Pass at least six subjects, with not less than three at the Higher Level, and accumulate a minimum total grade of 28. This does not include bonus points.
• The six subjects undertaken must comprise the mandatory courses of HL or SL English, Biology, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
• A minimum predicted final score of four in English is required.
• A maximum of 18 units may be granted for HL courses completed with a score of five or more significant, whether the IB diploma has been completed or not.

Denial of Application for Admission

Should your application for admission be denied, you will be informed of the decision under the signature of the Chair of the Undergraduate Student Admissions Committee stating the reason(s) for the decision.

Scholarship at Queen’s University

Queen’s University is home to international students from over 100 countries. Yearly, more than two-thirds of Queen’s incoming candidates are supported through Queen’s University Scholarships and the external scholarships accepted at the University.

• Queen’s Entrance Scholarships are mainly awarded to International students.
• 95% of Queen’s University Scholarships are based on auto-consideration.
• Applications for admission to Queen’s University are used as criteria for the scholarship.
• Students in master’s programs are only granted scholarships offered by their chosen faculty.
• Whereas Doctoral students often receive a minimum funding of CAD 18,000.

The criteria for various scholarships are considered on the admission average, notwithstanding the level of study chosen. Nonetheless, do well to consider all of Queen’s University Scholarships and external scholarship programs.

Queen’s University Scholarships for Bachelor Students

International undergraduate students at Queen’s undergraduate level are considered for admission scholarships. More than 50% of bachelor program students each year receive Queen’s University Scholarships.

Note that so as to be eligible for Queen’s University Scholarships for undergraduate students, you are required to have an admission average of 90% and above. If you fail to meet this criterion, you will not be considered for any undergraduate scholarships.

International students are granted only four Queen’s University scholarships at the undergraduate level.
