Saskatchewan In-demand Occupations Significantly Increased To Over 200

The Saskatchewan province has increased the list of in-demand occupations associated with its Express Entry and In-Demand Occupation sub-categories from Nineteen (19) occupations to more than Two hundred (200).

Two principal streams within the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) do not need a job offer or work experience in Canada for a candidate to be considered eligible.

One of these streams, the Express Entry sub-category, is for individuals with a valid and up-to-date profile in Canada’s federal Express Entry pool.

Applicants in the Express Entry pool who receive a provincial nomination via the SINP’s Express Entry sub-stream are granted an extra 600 points towards their ranking score, practically guaranteeing an invitation to apply (ITA) for Canada permanent residence.

The other stream, the In-Demand Occupation Sub-stream, is open to applicants who are not in the Express Entry pool. If selected, these applicants would apply for permanent residence outside of Express Entry, which is usually slower by comparison.

Both immigration sub-streams require relevant work experience in an eligible high-skilled occupation, among other requirements.

A high-skilled occupation is considered skill level A or B or Skill Type 0 under Canada’s National Occupational Classification list.

Rather than classifying the occupations that are now eligible, the SINP is only instead listing the 129 occupations that are left out. Unfortunately, this leaves more than two hundred (200) occupations that may now be eligible.

Both Express Entry applicants considering moving to Saskatchewan through the In-Demand Occupation Sub-Category must file a separate Expression of Interest with the SINP.

“These SINP categories have long been a great route for eligible candidates, but with work experience in a few occupations, to pursue provincial nomination and Canadian permanent residence,” said David Cohen.

“Opening these streams to many other occupations can benefit Saskatchewan’s labor market as well as the highly skilled applicants who dream of a life in Canada and whose occupations are now included on the list.”

The first step towards pursuing a provincial nomination via Saskatchewan’s Express Entry system is to submit an Express Entry profile into the federal pool.

To be accepted under Saskatchewan’s Occupation In-Demand Sub-stream, applicants must first open a profile in Saskatchewan’s Expression of Interest system.
